To work as an ROP teacher you will need to qualify for a Designated Subject Credential. Credentialing requirements can be found at the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing. The ICOE credential analyst will work with ROP new hires to expedite and direct you through this process.
Within two years of receiving the preliminary credential, you must take and pass the Level 1 Requirements. You can find a Level 1 course online; here are some possibilities:
CSUSB: We have now found a solution to that problem through “On Demand Distance Learning.” Any new ROCP teacher can now start Level 1 coursework online on the of day of hire or before. As there are no scheduled class meetings, there are no time conflicts, and we have maintained the same standards of high academic quality and individual attention that have come to characterize our courses in a context of interactive self paced assignments that really work.
Although this is a relatively new innovation, many teachers throughout California are already beginning to find value in this option, not the least of which is that it is now possible for almost any newly hired ROCP teacher to actually complete Level 1 coursework before starting to teach!
